Macbook will not recognize USB Headphones in sound output

Recently my headphone jack broke off inside my headphone port. I opted to get the USB device for headphones and it worked for a while until now. When I go into the sound option under system preferences it doesn't even recognize the USB as an output device. How do I get it to recognize this?
