High Sierra broke external dual display output on Belkin docks

In my organization we have about 12 or so users running new Macbook Pro's with Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Express docks. Purchased these through the Apple Store as believe they are the official recommended dock to use with new Macbooks (?). They worked fine before but it seems a recent High Sierra update, perhaps the latest .4 release, broke the Thunderbolt drivers somehow .

Would guess it's a dumb DRM / thunderbolt 3 security thing... the Apple store docks 'should' be recognized correctly, shouldn't they?

Issue:

Now the docks are not recognized correctly in the devices page. While most components work, the second display no longer works. Most of the users are using two 4k displays at 60HZ which these are certified for but simply these does do not work anymore, no output now, was wondering if this is a known issue and if any fix or repair ETA is available.

I imagine it'll take a long time so ordered in new docks and usb C/ thunderbolt 3 to hdmi adapters in the meantime. Very disappointed though as these are official docks so the compatibility should be assured (would guess), and not to mention they were about 500 bucks or so now have about $6000 worth of docks that no longer work.

I guess there is a reason they are rated one star in the reviews... disappointing when updates break stuff that used to work.

the second display no longer works.

This is not a Thunderbolt problem, but instead a problem with DisplayLink.

DisplayLink displays are a method for creating Un-Accelerated software display buffers in RAM, and sending them out on low-speed interfaces like USB-2.

It is also used for the second and subsequent display on many Docks, but in some cases it can barely keep up with mouse-tracking, so it can be annoying.

Look on DisplayLink web site for an up-to-date Driver. Another user had a similar complaint, and was placated after checking their site, where (at this writing) this notice appears:

Important Information about macOS 10.13.4 update
We have become aware that installing macOS release Version 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS upgrade, with the current DisplayLink driver [4.1] installed. Functionality such as Ethernet and audio, where implemented, is unaffected. We have alerted Apple to this issue and are working hard to find a resolution. These features continue to work as expected in 10.13.3.In the meantime, we have a new driver [4.3] that will enable clone mode, but not mirror or extended mode displays in 10.13.4. If you require mirror or extended mode displays, we recommend that you stay on macOS 10.13.3 or earlier at this time.
