Is it possible to make a recording at a slow tempo and then increase the tempo while retaining the pitch?

Yes you can.

Once you recorded your Audio Region on a Track, open the Audio Editor (Key Command "E") and click on the Flex Button to Enable Flex. Select the Audio Region and enable the checkbox "Follow Tempo and Pitch".

Now you can change the Project Tempo and the Audio File will play faster or slower without changing the pitch.

If you want to change the pitch you can use the Transpose Slider above the checkbox.
