iPod Classic 5th Generation 160 GB not recognized by iTunes or Macbook

Hi,

I have a iPod Classic 5th Generation 160GB and I cannot not get it to be recognized by either iTunes or Disk utility. Problem started after I recharged the iPod. The iPod locked after recharging, so I rebooted it by pressing the "MENU + SELECT buttons. it rebooted but all music was deleted. I connected the iPod with iTunes (ver. 12.7.4.74) and was prompted with the message that the iPod was corrupted and needed to be restored. Initially I was able to connect and restore from iTunes, and start to sync my music. The sync would not finish so I rebooted both the iPod and the Mac at which point iTunes and the Mac would no longer recognize the ipod.

I tried rebooting the iPod again and put it in disk mode then tried to connect again with no luck. The screen just shows "Do not disconnect". I rebooted the iPod again and entered the diagnostic mode and did a manual test. Everything checked good except when I run the HD check>HDSMARTData it says open Device... Device opened then displays "Error". Does this indicate that the hard drive is bad?

Currently, all I can do is reboot the iPod, enter disk mode or Diagnostic mode successfully. If I just do a reboot, it displays a message saying "Use iTunes to restore". When I connect it to the Mac and launch iTunes, I get the flashing circle with the slash and the text that says "Do not disconnect", but the iPod is not recognized by either iTunes or disk Utility.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks in advance

HI tt2,

I am able to get into disk mode but once I connect the ipod to the Mac and launch iTunes, it does not connect with iTunes and I cannot even see it from disk utility either. Its as if it's not connect to the Mac at all. I tried everything that was suggested in the "Corrupt iPod Classic" document and nothing works.
