Music not playing on Apple Watch

I listen to music on my Apple Watch regularly, I know how to add and remove music, etc. Yesterday in the middle of a song my apple watch stopped playing and has not been able to start playing again since. The same music works when I play it through the apple music app on my iphone. I press play and it looks like its going to play and then it just doesn't. Please help!! I use this feature daily and this is driving me nuts. Thanks!

I have the exact same issue. I have tried unpairing, deleting all music, resyncing, restarting my watch and iPhone, turning Bluetooth on and off, unpairing my AirPods, etc. It will work without issues for a few days and then suddenly, the music on my Apple watch just stops playing. I can't make it start again by doing anything - all the troubleshooting tips don't work (and I've searched for weeks). Then I'll try again later and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The issue isn't consistent.

It's not my AirPods, because they work with phone calls and my iPhone. All Apple music and radio works with my iPhone, but it's very unreliable with the watch. It's especially frustrating when I leave for a walk without my iPhone and it won't work.

I have an iPhone 8 and my watch is a series 3 with an active cellular plan. All my software is always up-to-date. To me, it seems like it's a bug either with Apple Music, or with the watch OS. Either way, this needs to be fixed.

Same is happening to me on my Nike+ Series 3 (paired with iPhone 8). Tried all different methods of turning the iPhone off, putting the watch into and out of airplane mode, different Bluetooth headphones (Airpods and a pair of sport headphones).

This started for me about a month ago. Only noticing it on the Music app. Other apps don't lose audio.

Have not tried unpairing the watch and starting from scratch, but reading the replies it sounds like that doesn't help either.

Happy to provide Apple engineers with diagnostic logs or more context. This bug puts the watch in paperweight territory for me - my primary use case is using it to work out with music.

I'm with you! I find it frustrating that the very "simple" features that Apple are marketing as a selling feature are great one month and then after an update don't work. Just at random. I'm frustrated as I use this feature constantly and at speed while on my bicycle training. This afternoon it got dangerous on the bike as I kept trying to keep hitting play and it would just automatically pause / stop playing. I pulled over, paused my workout... turned off apple watch 3 LTE, turned it back on it still did it, reset device still not working and now back home and trying to unpair / repair.

Come on Apple.... it's like "photos" on the Mac, voicemail on the iPhone, and contact list creation glitches...

I still love them though...

I have also had this problem. I have tried restarting my watch with no ludo. Occasionally I get the error thst I am listening on another device and click ok to continue listening with watch. The thing is, I’m not listening with another device. I’ve notice It seems to be songs that I have gotten from Apple Music and not songs I have purchased or ripped from my CD collection. Very frustrating

I'm having this issue too. In my opinion this is a bug in WatchOS and I think it's related to the last update which allowed one to control the HomePod from their Watch. I'm hoping that Apple solves this in an upcoming update since as a runner, it is very frustrating to me that I now have to carry my phone in order to listed to music.

I have this same issue! It is quite random - sometimes it works fine and other times the music stops and will not play again. Very frustrating! I am wondering what people are using for to track their run when this happens to them. I have been using iSmoothrun and didn't know if it was a conflict with that app, but it sounds like others have it happen with Nike Run Club. I used to use Strava and thought about switching back, but sounds like it it is probably a Watch OS issue.

Same issue here on both my Series 3 (LTE) and my fiance's. We're experiencing the issue with just the trying to use the music or radio apps with no workout tracking app running. Hopefully a fix will come soon, I've tried just about everything else short of taking it in to the Apple Store...which apparently hasn't really worked for anyone else either.

I sent my watch to Apple so they could take a look at it, and the geniuses their apparently didn’t read the extensive log report created with my issue, because they were unable to duplicate the problem. They just sent the watch back to me. Had they read the report, they would know that the music plays fine for a few hours after setting the watch up as a new watch. Frustrated to the max.

Thanks deggie, lovely insight. Everyone else, here are a few of the numbers for the "senior engineers" that I spoke with. I probably spoke with everyone there and not one of them were particularly helpful. They're in Austin, Texas. Maybe if enough people call and ***** they'll actually take this seriously.

I am having the exact same issue and it’s so frustrating! It even started around the same time that you made your original post. I have sent my watch off to Apple and they couldn’t reproduce the issue so of course they just sent it right back. I have an open case that is ongoing with Apple support. I have tried multiple headsets and even went so far as to buy AirPods to make sure it was not the Bluetooth device I was trying to listen with. While using my watch, I can still take and make calls and hear all of my notifications. But none of the music features work. I’ve reset my watch to factory, unpaired and paired again, removed the playlists and added back, tried to just listen to the music through streaming and not actually download to the watch. I even reset my phone. Each time, it works for a few hours and sometimes a day or so but then starts again. It’s getting extremely frustrating because the only reason I bought the watch was for the music streaming ability. It is still under warranty as I only bought it in December. Apple has been working with me and we have tried a lot of troubleshooting things but nothing is working and they don’t seem to know what’s the matter. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one with the issue. I have a call scheduled with my Apple support guy tomorrow so I am definitely going to let him know I came across this thread. Apple need to figure this out and get it taken care of now that other watch users are experiencing the exact same thing. I have the watch3 cellular. I wonder if the gps only watch is also having these issues.

Update. I spoke to my Apple advisor and told him that I found 19 posts to the discussion boards about this, each with multiple comments from people saying they have the same issues. He told me he can not access the discussion boards. So he asked me to send screenshots. I sent 28 to him. Hopefully now they will realize that this issue is affecting many people. Not just 1 person.
