Music not playing on Apple Watch

I listen to music on my Apple Watch regularly, I know how to add and remove music, etc. Yesterday in the middle of a song my apple watch stopped playing and has not been able to start playing again since. The same music works when I play it through the apple music app on my iphone. I press play and it looks like its going to play and then it just doesn't. Please help!! I use this feature daily and this is driving me nuts. Thanks!

I uninstalled the "watch app" from my phone and reinstalled it. My watch has been playing music flawlessly every day for over 2 weeks now!

NOTE: When uninstalling the watch app from your phone, you will have to unpair your watch first... so make sure it is backed up. Obviously, you'll have to re-pair your watch. Curious to know if this helps anyone else out.

I had the exact same problem and they Ould not diagnose it at all. They had me take it back to Apple yesterday and sent it away, as it is under warranty. They made me buy a new one while the other is sent away, which I thought sucked, but they guaranteed I would get a refund when the other one comes back in 2 weeks, or longer if it takes longer. They don' know what to do and I can't lie without my watch...

Yep we are identical in this. I was going to take it to apple for a replacement but your comment lets me know I shouldn’t bother. Thanks

I’ll add a couple more bits of info. Before this watch i hd the series 3 gps version for 4 months and never had the problem.

Also today I listened to music at the gym without using nike run club, first time in awhile. My music didn’t stop, this may be a coincidence but we’ll see

So, I’m glad I’m not the only one with this issue anymore... I think I’ve spoken with every senior engineer with Apple support. I’ve sent them a diagnostic log of the watch acting up. I’ve sent them a video of the watch acting up. I’ve tried every possible combination of restarting, unpairing/repairing, updating, deleting and reinstalling apps. I’ve used different headphones. Everything. Music works fine playing from my phone, though. Like everyone else, just when I think the music is back working normally, another day at the gym comes and in the middle of a workout, the music stops. I’ve got another phone call scheduled for Saturday with Apple, so we’ll see.

I have S3 nike+ cellular. My s3 nike+ gps didn’t have the problem.

And yeah i thought it was the music app since the NRC notifications kept working even though music didn’t. This may or may not have a bearing on this, but i have the problem in the radio app too. Not sure from a programming standpoint if they share a similarly in the background.

Thanks for the follow up. So this clarifies that it’s not isolated to nike+ or cellular. Also it happened to me today while using the radio app again.

An additional thing i noticed was that the headphones were connected because I was getting NRC notifications, but the remote on my heaphones wouldn’t make a beeping sound like they normally do when they’re pressed. This has happened to 3 difference BT headphones in the pst as well. So even though the headphones are working, something with the music connection is preventing any response or functionality with the Bluetooth headphones remote. This only happens part of the time.

Same is happening to me on my Nike+ Series 3 (paired with iPhone 8). Tried all different methods of turning the iPhone off, putting the watch into and out of airplane mode, different Bluetooth headphones (Airpods and a pair of sport headphones).

This started for me about a month ago. Only noticing it on the Music app. Other apps don't lose audio.

Have not tried unpairing the watch and starting from scratch, but reading the replies it sounds like that doesn't help either.

Happy to provide Apple engineers with diagnostic logs or more context. This bug puts the watch in paperweight territory for me - my primary use case is using it to work out with music.

I have also had this problem. I have tried restarting my watch with no ludo. Occasionally I get the error thst I am listening on another device and click ok to continue listening with watch. The thing is, I’m not listening with another device. I’ve notice It seems to be songs that I have gotten from Apple Music and not songs I have purchased or ripped from my CD collection. Very frustrating

I have this same issue! It is quite random - sometimes it works fine and other times the music stops and will not play again. Very frustrating! I am wondering what people are using for to track their run when this happens to them. I have been using iSmoothrun and didn't know if it was a conflict with that app, but it sounds like others have it happen with Nike Run Club. I used to use Strava and thought about switching back, but sounds like it it is probably a Watch OS issue.

I sent my watch to Apple so they could take a look at it, and the geniuses their apparently didn’t read the extensive log report created with my issue, because they were unable to duplicate the problem. They just sent the watch back to me. Had they read the report, they would know that the music plays fine for a few hours after setting the watch up as a new watch. Frustrated to the max.
