Music not playing on Apple Watch

I listen to music on my Apple Watch regularly, I know how to add and remove music, etc. Yesterday in the middle of a song my apple watch stopped playing and has not been able to start playing again since. The same music works when I play it through the apple music app on my iphone. I press play and it looks like its going to play and then it just doesn't. Please help!! I use this feature daily and this is driving me nuts. Thanks!

I have the exact same issue. I have tried unpairing, deleting all music, resyncing, restarting my watch and iPhone, turning Bluetooth on and off, unpairing my AirPods, etc. It will work without issues for a few days and then suddenly, the music on my Apple watch just stops playing. I can't make it start again by doing anything - all the troubleshooting tips don't work (and I've searched for weeks). Then I'll try again later and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The issue isn't consistent.

It's not my AirPods, because they work with phone calls and my iPhone. All Apple music and radio works with my iPhone, but it's very unreliable with the watch. It's especially frustrating when I leave for a walk without my iPhone and it won't work.

I have an iPhone 8 and my watch is a series 3 with an active cellular plan. All my software is always up-to-date. To me, it seems like it's a bug either with Apple Music, or with the watch OS. Either way, this needs to be fixed.

I have the same issue. It’s extremely frustrating. At first it wouldn’t play the Audio from the Nike Audio guides runs. Had to restart and delete the app. The. It wouldn’t play music while running. Would start and stop. I thought it was just the NRC App. So I used the Apple Watch Workout App and played music. Same issue. Starts and stops. Tried different headphones, Beats, Bose etc. Same issue. Have repaired. Deleted apps, reinstalled, restarted the watch. Still keeps coming back and happening. Please fix this Apple.

I will try this out, too. I am updating now and will test it for about a week or so.

I also had BT connectivity issues, switching my AirPods from device to device. I went to the Genius Bar and they replaced my actual ear buds (not the case) and the BT switching happened a lot faster. I am not sure why my AirPods did this but kind of glad it was a hardware issue and not software - also kind of frustrated that it was a hardware issue after only having the AirPods for about 3-4 months and they were not even used a ton in that period. I hope the AirPods 2 are more reliable!

@tess989, all the reps I have dealt with seem to think it’s an issue with my hardware. It’s good to know that some others at least recognize it’s not. Very frustrating after repeatedly trying all their troubleshooting ideas with no resolution. How long will it take for everyone to get on the same page and issue the OS Update! 😡😡

Oh really? UGH, that's so frustrating. It's hard to know who is right if they aren't even on the same page!

Two of my colleagues sent their watches in for repair (both different models as discussed in this thread), and both had them returned saying nothing was wrong with them even though they successfully reproduced the issue. Their conclusion was that it was a defect in the software and should be addressed. The rep I spoke to most recently told me it was a known issue - so hopefully that means someone has it on a list of bug fixes.

To me, this is a stop ship issue since it impacts one of the main functions of the watch (especially for those of us who have cellular and is the main reason we purchased this model - to use without the phone). IMO, a hot fix needs to be pushed to fix this right away.

Since mine has been working for the last week, I'm afraid to breathe on it the wrong way. When I start the radio app, I'm always holding my breath while it loads because I think it's going to fail.

I had mine sent in for repair with extensive notes along with it explaining that it usually takes a few hours to reproduce the issue after it’s been turned off and unpaired/paired for the issue to reproduce (this was important because it had to be unpaired from my phone and turned off for shipping.) they were unable to reproduce the issue and I got my watch back the very next day and they said nothing was wrong. That was very frustrating because they just brushed it off and didn’t look into it extensively or even pay attention to the notes I sent. So I’m glad that some watches reproduced the issue so that they could see it. The people at the Apple store got to see the issue when I took it in but all they could do was send it in to the engineers.

I had the same issues described in this thread with my Apple Series 3 LTE watch. The issue seemed to resolve itself completely for the past week immediately after i disabled all the "automatically add" music features from the apple watch app on the iPhone. I left the playlists i had added myself prior to noticing the issue and erased the music that was automatically added to the phone and it has worked perfectly for 4 runs each approximately 25-30 minutes.

UGH!! Joining the group. I made it through 28 minutes of a work out and then suddenly music stopped. I hit play and momentarily it stops again. I tried streaming radio and plays for a few seconds then same thing it stops. Restarted watch, disconnected EarPods, reconnected and again it happened. It now is at a point that is will not play music or radio at all.

I'm updated to the latest OS on both watch and phone.

FRUSTRATED!! Ruining my workouts 😟

Addendum:

I figured out something curious. My purchased playlists and uploaded music from CD's will play without issue. The issue is only affecting my created playlists from Apples music service and Radio.

Hope this helps in solving this issue.

Having the same issue. Purchased my watch 3 days ago and this morning it stopped playing music from the phone - plays fine from the bluetooth connection. Spent 20 min at work unpairing/pairing my phone, which is NOT cool. Since I am still under the 2 week product return window, based on what I am reading here, I am thinking it might be better to simply return the phone and try again once the issue has been resolved. This really stinks....

Hello all,

First of all I have the regular iWatch 3 and iPhone SE.

I have the same problem as all of you. I've purchased my Apple Watch 2 weeks ago and 3 days ago my watch starts with this problem. So I'm going to explain what is happening exactly:

If I open music app on my watch and I select a playlist located on my iPhone, it shows the song as playing but 3 seconds later disappears the title of the song and nothing is playing.

Then I start playing a playlist choosing it on iPhone, so I open the app on iWatch and it shows as playing the currently song without problems, also I can control de volume, skip songs (on the same playlist), etc... The problem is, if now I want to choose other playlist, then stops the music and disappear again the title.

I think this problems happened when I have updated the software because it started happening the same day as I updated it.

I have to add that I've tried all the ways that all of you posted here: turn off and on iWatch and iPhone, unpair and pair again, disconnect Bluetooth, delete all playlist on iPhone and syncing them again...

If someone know a way to fix it, please let us know.

I just want to chime in and add that I have the exact same problem! Add me to the frustrated customer list! Music starts then stops 3 seconds into the track. Have done ALL of the resets, unpairings and pairings, taken music off my watch and reloaded music on to my watch, etc...Like others have experienced, sometimes it fixes the issue for an hour or two, sometimes a few days, but it always goes back to not working eventually. I've had the watch almost a year and this issue started about six months ago. Very frustrating. Apple, fix this in the next update. It is clear that it is an OS problem. Watch S3 + Cellular.
