Forward SINGLE message in Apple Mail group conversation

I've been embarrassed more than once by forwarding a highlighted email in a "conversation thread", only to find the entire thread of messages has been sent.

I really need to take one message and forward it to multiple people with different comments and get their responses without it all jumbling together! Any joy?

I've tried to break the ties by:

1) Turning off conversation via VIEW - doesn't work, forwards everything regardless.

2) Changing to Expand each conversation via VIEW, then choosing a single message that is highlighted - doesn't work, forwards everything.

3) Open a new message, then forwarding a single message as an attachment. Works, but the message shows as an icon and requires the recipient to open it to read it.

iMac with Retina 5K display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), Mail 11.2

You can forward a single message by clicking on the forward button on that message.

However, a message isn't just the main text of the message. If the message is a reply to previous messages, then all of the quoted text will be part of the forward.

This works, although I think it's clunky. I can at least go to the new message and delete what I don't want sent after appending. I'm confused by your saying the new message CC and BCC will share with anyone in the old appended messages though? Have I got that wrong? That's scary!

Open apple mail application and compose a new mail ( use command and N keys on the keyboard ) , select a conversation , take cursor on edit > click on append selected messages and then fill up the credentials in mail compose window and click on send button .In this scenario you don't need CC and BCC field to be filled up as the conversation will be shared with all of them .

Useful info to remember, thanks, but I'm finding that a thread with multiple replies from people really is a confusing mess to sort out when I want to send just an original message with a comment. I think I need to forget using the "Forward option" generally - what a shame! Outlook actually has it right... Mail falls down in this instance.
