Malwarebytes for Mac doesn't scan for Windows infections, which appears to be what the OP is dealing with.

And ClamXAV is free for thirty days, which is more than enough time to deal with this specific issue.

That being said, removing an infection from a PDF document is probably not possible at all and certainly not by using any Anti-malware software designed for Mac use. The document should be deleted.

That is because there aren't any viruses for the Mac. Adware is pretty common on the Mac. The problem with situations like this is that false positives or some other error (on your e-mail recipient's side) is most likely to blame for this.

Where did you get this PDF? Could it have come to you with a virus in it?

I meant the PDF file itself.

Unfortunately, those online PDF editors can be questionable. They are sometimes used to strip DRM from PDFs or otherwise decrypt them.

You can use Apple's Preview to edit PDFs. If you have a complex PDF that Preview can't handle, there are some 3rd party alternatives.

Are you aware that ClamXav is no longer 'free'?

I think Malwarebytes would be a better choice in this instance.
