How do I export photos from an iPhoto library file on external drive?

I have an iPhoto library I created in 2005 sitting on an external hard drive that I want to import to my icloud. About 33 gb. I don't have enough space on my mac to import it into Photos first, then upload to iCloud.

I thought the best way would be to somehow export the actual photos from the iPhoto library then drag and drop to icloud. I can't see how else I can do it without a Mac with enough storage space.

Any tips would be much appreciated, feeling a bit frustrated.

Do you have a copy of iPhoto that runs? If so

File -> Export...

If you don't then open the Library with Photos, which will convert it for you.

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

However, the iCloud Photo Library needs to be accessed through the Photos, and then means, inevitably, these images have to be imported to Photos. There's no getting around that.

If space is tight, you can move your Photos Library to an external. Post on the Photos forum for more on that.
