How to change WLAN to Wi-Fi on iPhone?

Hi all, I'm in the UK and have an iPhone 5s that is showing WLAN in settings instead of Wi-fi. I believe WLAN is used in China but doesn't accept UK Wi-fi passwords. Therefore, does anyone know how to change from WLAN to Wifi? Is there a setting you can change or something you can install? I have tried 'Reset Network Settings' and restoring the iPhone but no luck so far.

To my knowledge, WLAN = WiFi. But this doesn't answer your question.

So, please, give us some more details.

Where and when did you buy that iphone?

Did you ever see "wifi" instead of "wlan" on that unit? Did that label change after an iOS update?

What does your iphone show when you enable wifi, I mean, can it show also available wifi networks?
