Cannot Change Homepage

If Apple insists on Safari only using Apple as a home page, why do they waste all our time making a homepage field in preferences? I empty cache, clear history, killed plists, rebooted. I set the homepage to what I want, tab out of the field and it reverts back to http://www.apple.com/startpage/

OS 10.13.4, Safari Version 11.1 (13605.1.33.1.2)

Does anyone know how to change this or what the real purpose of this field is, since clearly it's not meant to change the homepage?

Thanks,

Jeff

If you are using safari as web browser can click on drop down arrows and choose as options from it .

And fill up the credentials accordingly , a search engine is to be required see this article Set your homepage in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

If this is not setting properly use malwarebytes to remove malware and keep safari extensions as off .

And which plists are removed and from where is it from system library or user library and which folder and what is the name of the plist .

And deleted caches from user library or used develop menu and emptied the safari caches .

After entering user library see this article macOS Sierra: Library folder

You find a folder preferences and there are plist for safari , which three plist you deleted into the trash , are they still in the trash or you emptied it , see this screen shot . its easy to post a screen shot for better understanding .Also hide your user name .

I would recommend switch to new user test account How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

Cannot change Safari homepage?

The following procedure appears to solve the problem:

* In Safari, choose Preferences from the Safari menu.

* In the window that opens, click the General icon (if necessary)

* Enter your desired home page in the "Homepage" field, but DO NOT press return!

* At the top of the window, click any of the other icons (eg, Tabs, AutoFill, etc).

* You may see a prompt asking for confirmation for changing the home page. If so, confirm.

* Switch back to the General page and check to make sure the home page has been changed.

Hi, thanks for repkying.

I understand how it's SUPPOSED to work, my problem is that it doesn't. If this forum allowed posting video I would denonstrate what happens: I enter an address into Homepage and when I do anything to remove focus from that field (tab out, close preferences window, quit safari) it reverts back to Apple.com.

It better not be malware as this is a brand new out of the box MBP. It hasn't existed long enough to have gotten malware.

I'm user prefs I killed everything with "safari" in the name (there were three) then rebooted. I did not see any safari plist in the system preferences.

Thanks,

Jeff
