MicroSoft Outlook 16 for Mac iOS 10.11.6 El Capitan no longer opens

My MicroSoft Outlook 16 for Mac has been crashing (will not open) since I have been on the road for deployment. This crashing tends to happen when my battery runs low & I don't shut down Outlook properly. Since there is not error log but all MS applications are "hung" for an hour when I tried to open Outlook, I 1st tried trouble-shooting with MS help. After some troubleshooting efforts, I was asked to contact Apple tech support.

I hope that you can see the attachment regarding the communication.

Because the App just shuts down after an hour without a error log, I can not send a report.

What suggestions do you have?

Kindly, StarchMD

If you uninstall/reinstall, you would lose your settings. You could export your e-mails to the Desktop before uninstalling just to make sure you can recover them.

Since it is crashing only in your normal account, the .plist may be corrupt. I don't use Outlook, so I'm not sure of the .plist name. It should be something close to com.microsoft.Outlook.plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences to look for the .plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Safe Mode - About

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.
