I am trying to import videos shot on my iPhone X into iMovie. I plug my phone into my computer and launch iMovie. when I click on import to launch the import window I see my iPhone under "cameras" but not all my videos that are on my iPhone are NOT showing up in iMovie for me to import. I am running iMovie 10.1.8 on a 2017 iMac running Sierra.
First, update to High Sierra and current iMovie version 10.1.9. See if that makes any difference.
Try also exporting from your iPhone to your desktop using the Image Capture app on your Mac. See if that captures all of the vids. From your desktop you can drag them into iMovie as needed. Another way is to import into the Photo app, and see if all the vids appear. From there you can access the vids from the Photo Library icon in the iMovie media sidebar.
It is possible that your vids from iPhone X are in the new HEVC video format and iMovie is having some problem with it. If that's the case, you can go to your iPhone camera and video settings and choose to encode in "most compatible" format instead for future vids. For your present vids, on your iPhone go to Settings > Photos and in the "Transfer to Mac or PC" section, uncheck Keep Originals to ensure the media are being converted when importing to your Mac.

Thanks for the reply Rich. The reason I haven’t updated the OS is because I have a 2tb fusion drive and I’ve been told by Apple that high Sierra does’nt work well with the fusion drives, or at least you’ll encounter problems. I’m waiting for a fix on this from Apple. They know the problem and said they will fix it wit a future update. I checked to make sure HEVC was unchecked for the videos that were not showing up but that wasn’t the problem. I am now using image capture like you suggested and it works fine. It just bugs me that it’s not working like Apple says it should and I obsess over finding out why. Thanks for your help
GOT IT SOLVED! I checked my camera settings on my iPhone and I had it set to shoot video in 4k 60p (High Efficiency). Thats the reason the videos were not showing up. Earlier I just check SETTINGS - CAMERA - FORMATS and made sure THAT was not set to HEVC and it wasn't, its was set to most compatible. But still videos where not showing up until I checked RECORD VIDEO setting on my iPhone and changed that from 4k 60p to 4k 30p. I shot a test shot and sure enough when I plugged my iPhone into my Mac, launched movie, and then Import, the test shot was on the iPhone. Thanks Rich

I believe High Efficiency is the HEVC setting. Also, the Apple literature only claims 4k 30p editing, not 4k 60p.
