IF you need older versions of apps for your older device, there are two ways of getting them.

The first and easiest way is to download the newest app to a newer iDevice, first.

Then go back to your older iDevice, download the newest version of the app, once again, and if the developer/s has/have left an older, compatible version of their app/s on Apple's app servers, then you will receive a small window pop-up prompt that states that there is an older version of the app that is compatible with your device.. Would you like to download this version now.

Tap the OK button just below the prompt to start the downloading of the older app version to your iPad.

If you need apps for your older iDevice, if you have a computer with an older version of iTunes (version 12.6.4 or earlier ), you can try downloading the recent app/s, by accessing the iOS App Store, through iTunes, and then, download the recent version of the app/s you like to use on your older iDevice to iTunes on your computer, FIRST.

IF you own a computer with an older version of iTunes already on it, try using that version as an older iDevice does not need the latest iTunes version.

If you have a computer, but NO iTunes on it, here is a link to the older 12.6.3 version for download found in this Apple weblink.

Older versions of iTunes found here.

https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes

iTunes 12.6.4 here.

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208079

DO NOT download OR USE the latest version of iTunes (version 12.7.x) as there is no more support for saving apps in iTunes under the most recent versions.

If you have already downloaded the recent 12.7.x version of iTunes, NONE of what I have wriiten here in this post reply may work!

You will need to use an older iTunes version and once it is downloaded and installed on your computer, at launch, hold down the Opt/Alt key on your keyboard while launching this older iTunee version, so you can create a new Tunes library.

BEFORE DOING the IMMEDIATELY ABOVE, if you use iTunes on a computer and already have an iTunes Library, you will need to find the iTunes Library folder on your computer and, temporarily, move/copy this folder to another location so you do not accidentally write over your existing current iTunes library.

Then, back on your older iDevice, you can try to download the latest app from the iOS App Store and if the developer/s has/have left an older, compatible version of their app/s on Apple's app servers, then you will receive a small window pop-up prompt that states that there is an older version of the app that is compatible with your device.. Would you like to download this version now.

Tap the OK button just below the prompt to start the downloading of the older app version to your iDevice.

If you are successful in getting apps on this iPad, consider looking for more “up to date”, third party iOS web browsers for that version of iOS.

Some third party web browser developers supported their web browser on iOS 9.3.5 and are more up to date than the over two year old iOS version of the Safari Web Browser.

If you use iTunes on a computer, some third party iOS web browsers that may still have older versions for iOS 9.3.5.

I got the iPad back today, logged the App Store in using my own Apple id, look under purchased apps, found Netflix and downloaded it, I got the option to use the last compatible version as you explained in your solution. I now have Netflix on the iPad 2 as required.

logged out of App Store then logged it back in as my grandson, job done.

Thank you for posting the solution .

What do you have ipad 1, 2 or 3? Have you tried resetting your ipad through itune? Wipe your ipad clean and re-install the iOS to the latest version for your ipad. As one the member suggested, download Netflix on your iphone 6 or higher. Your iphone and ipad must be using the same apple id. On your ipad, go to app store, click on purchased apps. You will see netflix and click on it and it will offer you to install an older version of Netflix. Hope this will help.

Are you sure?

Many users screw up my procedures the first time and have to try, again.

The gist is that you either use a newer iDevice or iTunes 12.6.5 on a computer to download the most recent version of an app, first.

Then, go back to the older iDevice and launch the iOS App Store app and under the Purchased menu option, look for the app you wish to install onto the older iDevice in the Purchases list and then tap the download “cloud” icon and see if the iOS App Store offers you an older, compatible version of the app to download.

This is what you are trying to accomplish.

I did it form the first Netflix app that appear on my menu, the extrange thing was that I did the same with other apps like youtube and facebook and they pop asking me to install an old app, once I accepted system did it. But with Netflix there were no options, just a message telling me the ios was so old.

Following the other rute, thanks for that, I went down to my old purshaces and got Netflix there too, so I finally installed from there..

Thanks for the community help!

Not going to happen any longer.

Sorry.

While Netflix corporation still supports all of their older versions of their app, all the way back to iOS 5.1.1, Netflix corporation has removed all of their older Netflix app versions from Apple's iOS App Store servers.

These older Netflix app versions are gone, now.

Sorry. It is what it is at this very late date.

If you need an iPad that can run the latest and greatest versions of iOS, as well as, the most current apps available, then, you will need to purchase a new iPad from Apple or a discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple’s Refurbished & Clearance section of Apple’s Website.

Best of Luck to You!

These old iPad 2, 3, 4 and 1st gen iPad Mini models are nearing 8 and 9-years old, now.

As of the beginning of 2019, many, MANY third party app developers are all more quickly and completely dropping older app support for all old 7, 8 and 9-year iPads that are running 2-3 year old and earlier iOS versions.

Third party app developers are removing all of their older, legacy versions of their apps from Apple's App Store servers, now.

Older versions of apps are going to be gone for good, now!

Getting older versions of app for these old iPad models, initially from Apple’s iOS App Store is getting to be very difficult and problematic, now, and will only be getting much worse in 2020.

These old iPads are now reaching their complete end of life and support.

Old iPads that can no longer be upgraded/updated will have NO MORE APPS AVAILABLE for initial download, at all, soon, from the Apple iOS App Store, for such old iOS devices in the very near future.

Older versions of apps for older iPads will be completely gone, very soon!

This is now the time to seriously consider a new or discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple or other Apple authorised resellers.

Sorry & Best of Luck to You!

First, download the app on a recent iOS devices that netflix supported.

Before you can redownload items that you bought from the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books, follow these steps:

Sign in with the Apple ID that you used to purchase or download the item originally.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the App Store app, then tap Today at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap or your photo in the upper-right corner, then tap Purchased.
  3. Tap "Not on this [device]."
  4. Find the app that you want to download, then tap . The app downloads to your device.

Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books from the App Store, iTunes Store, and Apple Books

I can confirm that using an older version of iTunes worked for me, using a Windows computer

1) Install old version of iTunes on your computer, using same account that you use on your ipad

2) Plug in your iPad into the computer, sync it up (this is probably unnecessary but it's a step I took)

3) Try to install Netflix app (this will fail if you're on Windows, but that's okay)

4) Try to install Netflix on the iPad (you should get asked if you want to install an older version of the app now)

Success! Following your advice, I downloaded the Netflix app on my iPhone, which is a little less ancient than my iPad mini (iOS 9.3.5). (I set up iCloud back-up on both my iPhone and iPad, though I don't know if this made a difference). Then, on my iPad, I clicked on the "App Store" app. Once in the App store, I chose "Purchased" from the bottom menu, and then from the top menu I chose "Not on the iPad". I found the black and red Netflix icon and clicked on it. A message asked me if I wanted to download the most compatible version. Of course I said yes. Once opened, I input my login info just to check it out. Everything was fine.

Nothing should be “in the Cloud” and nothing is involved with iCloud.

Nothing.

You maybe confusing the App Store download “cloud” icon with iCloud, I suspect.

You have not really followed either of my procedures correctly.

If you have an iPhone 5S that has an updated iOS, you need to download the Netflix app directly to your iPhone 5S, first.

Then go back to your iPad, open the iOS App Store, and either try downloading the current app, again from the App store area and try downloading the app from there.

OR

Tap the Purchased option at the bottom of the App Store menu screen

Look for the Netflix app in your purchases.

Tap on the “cloud”/download icon next to the Netflix app. Using either of these methods, a small pop-up window should appear telling you that there is an older compatible version of the app and would you like to download this now.

Tap OK.

For the iTunes method ( using iTunes 12.6.5 or earlier ), you need to log into the iOS App Store from iTunes, using your Apple ID and password, download the current version of Netflix ( or any current app that may have a possible older iOS version ) and simply download it to your iTunes library on your computer.

NO iCloud involved.

Then, back on your iPad, follow my previous procedure/s stated above.

Once again, Good Luck to You!

If you have an iPad Mini 2, you should be able to upgrade the iOS to iOS 12.

If your iPad Mini is stuck on iOS 9.3.5, then you actually have an 1st gen iPad Mini 1 that cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 9.3.5.

The 1st generation iPad Mini 1 hardware is too old and underpowered to run any newer versions of iOS.

If that event, tap on my link above your post and read through my three procedures and pick the best one that works for your situation.

For the iTunes procedures, please read and follow those instructions very carefully.

All of my procedures work.
