External hard drive icons confusion

Hello.

I used many external hard drives to organize all my files. I gave each of them a different name and icon to recognize. But almost every time I plug in my hard drive (no matter it is just one at a time or several), my mac seemed to be confused and messed up my icons. Like on my desktop, Hard Drive A shows the icon of Hard Drive B, Hard Drive B shows the icon of Hard Drive C, etc.. But when I hit Command+I to call up the Info windows, it shows the correct one and not correspond with the wrong one shows on my desktop or Finder window... This bothers me for a long time... Anyone know why and how to fix it? Many thanks!
