Screen goes black as if it thought I was in a call

Starting today, my iPhone 7 will spontaneously go to a black screen and continue playing any sound if it was already. It’s as if it thought I was on a phone call but it I could be just watching a video. I can press the home button to get out of that screen but it’s usually just a temporary fix. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot it?
