Since I upgraded my iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 11.3, the proximity sensor is ridiculously sensitive. For example, if the phone is sitting face up on the table and I get within 3 inches of the top half of my phone (by the camera) the screen turns off. Any thoughts on how to fix this or turn off this "feature"?

Ok I had the same, getting any object within 2 or 3 inches of the camera made it go blank, upgraded to 11.3.4 and it fixed it. However it started again a few days later.
A hard re-boot (press release up volume, pres release down volume, press & hold start button let slider come up, keep it pressed and after a few seconds the apple logo will appear, keep the button pressed until the apple logo re-appears and then release the button. After a few seconds press and release the start button) fixed it and it has not returned.
Hard reset solved it for me. Super anoying.
I've had the same issue start yesterday running 11.4. Turning it off and turning it on again seems to have fixed it.
For me the problem has started after I installed 11.4.1
I just started having the same problem after 11.4.1 update.
Did the problem appear seconds after you update to 11.4.1, hours, days, or weeks? If it wasn't seconds, it's a coincidental hardware problem.
A reset fixed the problem, I have had 11.4.1 for a while now.

I had this problem to a lesser extent while using 11.4. A simple restart cleared it right up.
Mine just started with the 11.4.1 update .. what’s going on here ..
I’m running 11.4.1, and I have the same problem. I haven’t experienced it before but in my dark bedroom I can’t even hold my hand 4” without activating the sensor.
Did you restart the phone, as has been suggested about 1,000 times in this thread?

My iPhone 7 Plus was showing the same behaviour and I fixed it with a total shutdown and brought it back up. Problem fixed!
I wasn’t having any problems with the sensor in other apps till about 2 days ago and now when I play games or use any app I can’t get near the sensor or it goes blank
