recover deleted calendar event

My wife deleted a future dentist appointment from one of my iCal shared calendars. I got an alert that was very unhelpful in the iCal inbox on my Mac and iPhone:

"Todd Dentist - Deleted from [calendar name] by Jodi"

There's no date or time information and my only option is to click OK at which point the alert goes away. The event is already gone from my calendar and I don't remember when the appointment was scheduled. Does Apple Calendar/iCal on iCloud or any Apple device provide any kind of audit trail or change log so I can see what happened? If not, how can I search and recover a single event via Time Machine, iCloud or any other back-up? Recover an entire calendar to find one event is out of the question and not a user-friendly solution.

I'm hoping (but not hopeful) that there is some easy change log or audit trail provided by Apple so I can recover this event. I appreciate any help.

Thank you, Gail. I found the event on my iPad, which was connected to the Internet, but hadn't yet synced the calendar so I turned off wi-fi in time. This seems like a poor solution. I would have hoped for better from Apple. Given the risk of shared events being deleted by family members or coworkers or even by myself, some sort of audit trail seems like a basic calendar function. That or a "trash" concept where deleted events go into a trash folder for a period of time before being permanently deleted. They do that in photos and mail, why not with contacts and calendar events? I guess I'll have to start creating daily back-ups of my calendars and contacts so they can be included discreetly in my time machine and cloner back-up routines.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

You are most welcome 🙂

But again, an Archive of your Calendar is created automatically in iCloud. Contacts, Calendars, iCloud Drive files, etc. are iCloud sync'd files. Unlike Mail, they are not retained on a server. iCloud, by definition, is a syncing/sharing service. So, it automatically syncs additions, deletions, and updates across devices using those features under iCloud.

There is no practical way for iCloud to track each and every modification made by the millions of users across the globe using these features. So, they provide an automatic backup for you which you can access in iCloud.com under Settings.
