How to use voice search with the YouTube App.

Hello,

I can't seem to find a way to use the voice search feature on YouTube, and funny enough it's the only App on my AppleTV that voice searching isn't working on.

How do I go about doing this?

Thank you in advance.

Which Apple TV?

For 4th gen and 4K:

On the YouTube home screen, navigate to the top Search field, then click, and you will get the default tvOS search field, with dictation (and Siri).

Or navigate to the left side bar, then move to Search, and you will get the default tvOS search field, with dictation (and Siri).

It even autocorrected: ‘New’ became ‘Neil’ in the context of the other (later) words, in my quick test.

Siri on the Apple TV is built to work with apps that are built to work with it which often involves the app writers including specific databases alongside their apps (hence why it's only available in limited languages). I couldn't be certain but as YouTube is made up of user provider content, it's likely it won't work with Siri in the way you are hoping it will.

Literally just happened to me too AppleTV 4. It was working from the day I installed it a few years back and today it stopped. I literally use this almost every hour of the day, so I know it just stopped working. Not a language/localization issue. I tried many things, uninstalling the app and reinstalling it. Resetting app settings. I don't want to reset my AppleTV since all of my other apps don't have this problem. What's even strange is that I do NOT have auto-update, but even with the latest version the problem persists.

No I understand. I myself am a software engineer and have a developer account with Apple. You're preaching to the choir. Just trying to see if someone else has the same issue. I found another post to which someone who wrote the same thing as me. In that same thread, someone linked here and so was responding here.

So just to be clear....It worked yesterday and today it ceased to work. I literally use the app many times throughout the day. My system does NOT auto-update the apps, it also does NOT do an auto-update to the system itself (OS updates, patches, etc). I have to manually make any changes. I did this after Google decided to release buggy UIs (some older versions that are now patched). I just find that strange. I really think it might be some corrupt files or some cache that may have screwed something up. In my dev experience, this is always the solution...clear your cache and problem solved. Problem here is that I'm not sure if a app reset does clear all of that. Tried that and it doesn't work. I find it odd. I now updated the app to the latest version and still the problem persists. I already contacted them, but again here to see if the issue will be resolved sooner if someone knows what's going on.

I’m starting to think that google is doing this on purpose to get people to switch from Apple TV to a google media player. I hate when manipulate your devices so that they can get you to spend more money ! That’s what I can’t stand about technology. The fact that someone on the other end can manipulate your software and hardware in order for it to appear broken so that you can buy a replacement. This should be investigated and companies should pay big fines for doing this ! It’s so unfair ! People spend hard earned money on all these gadgets and all someone on the other end has to do is make up a code that disables your priduct. It’s very sad !
