DNS fails but on only on google sites (*.google.com, youtube.com, youtu.be): anyone else?

This has been going on few weeks now and it's consistent: only sites owned by Google are failing. They come back if I "prime" DNS by either doing dig request followed by a ping. I have updated that to use these:

killall -HUP mDNSResponder

killall mDNSResponderHelper

dscacheutil -flushcache

This only happens in Safari: I can use Chrome with no trouble even if Safari is failing. There is no periodicity to this: it happens when it happens, sometimes frequently, sometimes not.

I use Google's nameservers on my router and my laptop (where this happens) uses that. I have adblock running on the router and of course that means some google sites are listed there. I think it's a Safari glitch, not a network problem or trouble in the IP stack.

Safari Version 11.1 (13605.1.33.1.2)

I know this is a pain in the rear answer but the only thing I can think of (limited knowledge of course) but put everything back to basic settings and see what happens. There is always the Apple support article about WiFi settings but I am not sure it mentions anything about DNS settings or whether or not to use/not use additional software/extensions on it.

I am of the opinion that if it gets to a point when it is too complicated to figure out due to the number of configurations you have, then go back to basics. Don’t assume it is a problem with the design of the hardware/software but the configurations you have added to the mix. Once you go back to basics and see if it works properly then little by little see where it fails when you add things back to the mix one at a time and test for a little while after adding each thing back.

Not sure how much more basic I can get…the DNS server is what gets delivered as part the DHCP provisioning. I'm not actually doing *anything* on the laptop. Which is why this is confusing. The other devices (iPad and iPhone) work with the router and adblock etc. Is there a difference in iOS Safari and/or the IP stack that is responsible for this? No extensions in Safari, nothing complicated that I am aware of. And after a hardware problem a couple of weeks back, this is a pretty recent/stock install of High Sierra.

Your IP address is manipulated , factory default reset your internet service provider router and also if you are using airport express , create a strong passwords in both , and check the box of firewall .

The ip should be 192.168.x.y

The x and y figures always changes as 1, 2 ...if it is broadband connection in which IP address is fluctuating .

Also open system preferences - network make sure your DNS settings are correct , generally google DNS server settings are used as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Enter in user library see this article macOS Sierra: Library folder

And find a folder preferences > there is a first folder ByHosts select all the contents ( command and A ) and delete them ( command and delete ) to the trash , restart the Mac and for the time being don't empty the trash ( consult this method with apple support before applying ) .

There is no need to install Adblock plus in Mac ads do appear on when you open internet service provider page .

You can also test in a new user account see this article How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

Still read some articles https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT202222
