Why Network Utility bypass proxy

Hello All!

Excuse me for my bad english...

I'v setup a proxy on my local network to make test. (Proxy Socks 5).

When i'm activate proxy in System Pref --> Network --> advanced --> proxy

"All" the app seem to use the proxy. (Verified with safari IP and netstat)

But when i'm try to make à simple traceroute with "network utility" app, the trafic bypass the proyx and use the normal way...

I'm forget a setup?

Why network utility bypass proxy with this setting?

Tnx for help!

Hi Sun-Beach...

I have a thin grasp on networking knowledge but until someone who knows more comes along, this will get you started in the right direction. The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) seven layer model can help you visualize protocol structure. There’s tons of information about the subject on the web; a few links below.

Short answer— traceroute makes use of lower layer network protocol (layers 3+4) than SOCKS5 (layer 5).

SOCKS5: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOCKS
