Not sure what happened, but now, when I open Photos and connect my iphone 8, my iphone does not show up and I do not have the option to import photos from my phone. I have rebooted my phone and restarted my MacPro and still nothing. It's been a while since I last downloaded photos (maybe 2 months). Any help would be appreciated.

Check your iCloud settings on the phone - you probably have iCloud Photo Library enabled on the iPhone and if you do you can not manually import the photos - you either need ICPL enabled on the IOS device and the Mac onr not on the IOS device

Which system version is running on your Mac? Have you launched iTunes to be able to confirm that the iPhone can trust the Mac? See: About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Ok - plug the phone directly into a USB port on the Mac

Thanks for the suggestion but I have ICPL turned off on my phone. Turns out that there is something wrong with the usb hub I am using. It used to work but now my phone is not recognized when it is plugged into the hub. Very aggravating.
If the iPhone used to work from the HUB but no longer, charge it fully and test again. The battery of your iPhone may be starting to get weak.
