I want to trade in my old iPad for a new one but I can't be without an iPad. But it appears that the trade in is not that straight forward. Can I get the money off the new item which is what I really need to do or do have to send in my old one and wait for the gift card before I can order the new one?

FYI,
If this is a seven year old iPad 2, you aren’t going to get much for this model iPad from Apple.
You are only going to get $50 toward a new iPad model.
You might get a little more than this if you prep this iPad for sale and try and sell it yourself.
