I didn't realize that gift cards were not able to be shared on a family account. I applied my children's gift cards to my account and so when they ask for things it comes off my credit card when I still have a gift card balance. Am I able to transfer the gift card balance to the children? This is so frustrating and unclear.

No, you can't transfer a gift card balance.
You can certainly contact iTunes Customer Support and discuss the matter with them.
Or, since you're using Family Sharing, have your kids tell you what they want to buy and then you buy it using the balance. Not incredibly convenient but, it should do the job.

I was not offended. But, it was pretty clear that you thought I was representing Apple. I don't necessarily disagree with you but, it's more effective if you let Apple know.

What can I do then? Is there any workaround? It's very unhelpful that it wasn't clear. I have a balance on the gift card that I will never spend. I'm SO FRUSTRATED.
