Can't get into Icloud.com or Apple communities through Safari

I haven't been able to sign into icloud.com after updating to 10.13.4 on safari. I just get a spinning ball on a blue page, and the message after a while, "icloud encountered an error while trying to connect to the server." I can sign in using firefox. I have a macbook pro mid 2012 15"

I also can't sign into Apple communites with safari but can with firefox. I get an error message, "Safari can't open the page "https://idmsa.apple.com/IDMSWebAuth/signin? applekey529.....etc. I searched the web for answers and can't find anything anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Also try the Safe Mode.

Force Quit Safari from  menu and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

Remove any third party anti-virus or security application installed.

Please run EtreCheck and post the report. https://etrecheck.com

Click “Free Download” button, open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing EtreCheck icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” .

Paste it into the reply.

Thanks for your help unfortunately this did not work. Removing AVG did help but I need the antivirus protection so I’m a bit confused as to why it was blocking my ability to get an iCloud or into Apple support communities.

Apple periodically releases Software Updates that may include security updates.

3. It is not necessary to install an anti-virus software on a Mac.

These applications sometimes interfere with macOS performance.

4. But there is a problem with Scamware and adware.

Thanks so much for your help. When I uninstalled AVG then I could sign in to both iCloud and apple support communities through safari. I don't know what AVG is doing to block this and I do like the anti virus aspect. Are there any that you would recommend that won't do this?

You are welcome. I agree with dominic that you currently don't need to use an antivirus program on a Mac and the programs often interfere with normal computer operation. If you feel you must have one, I tested this several years ago and at the time it seemed less intrusive than most other anti-virus programs.
