Can't connect to iCloud using Safari

when I try to connect to icloud.com, before I get to the username & password, I get the message "Connection Error

iCloud encountered an error while trying to connect to the server"

I get black line across the top of the screen and some apple links across the bottom, so I'm partway in... but never get to the verification screens.

Firefox works fine (that's what I'm using now)

When I tried to log into the help section to make a posting, it tells me that Safari can't open the page because...... it can't establish a secure connection to the server idmsa.apple.com. (once again Firefox is fine).

I'm baffled.

Ideas?

Using Safari 13.0.5; OS 10.13.6

iMac Line (2012 and Later)

not essentially servers , if chrome / Firefox is working then safari should also work , it means issue is with safari , first use safe mode and run etrecheck ( delete unwanted apps / softwares that are found ) , network settings are checked ( like correct DNS server ) , no proxies / vpn services are to be installed .

In user library caches , cookies , saved application state contents are deleted , the complete safari folder contents are deleted , restart the Mac , also clear all history and website data , no safari preferences extensions are to be installed .

Its not the fault of version like Mac OS high Sierra used ( you must update the https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchlpx1065/mac

Most of this matches my experience. Safari & Chrome work without an issue. Most everything else through iCloud ( mail, storage, sync of calendars, etc) It's just signing into iCloud - or this discussion using Safari.

Nor is it a long standing problem for me. I've signed into iCloud via Safari... probably a month ago maybe. I've lost track of when updates were made to Safari.

I've seen issues like this with Apple that get ignored or never fixed. I only wish.
