New job, previous employee's missing password

I just started a new job and the Mac Pro I've inherited from the previous employee still has all his old sign on information, admin, apple ID is still signed on, everything. Our IT department is used to working on Windows so they have no idea how to help me. Because I can't sign him out (because I don't have his admin password), no updates are coming through and I've starting having serious issues with working on the machine. Is there a way to unlock and delete his profiles and log in without his passwords? Do I need to wipe the whole Mac and reset to factory?

Any suggestions are appreciated. I don't want to loose my position just because I can't get such a simple thing to work.

Yes, wipe the Mac and restore to factory.

Follow the steps in this Apple Support Topic to return the Mac to factory condition:

What to do before you sell or give away your Mac - Apple Support

Without doing this you will be tied to his Apple ID and won't be able to download anything from the AppStore or update/upgrade the system.

As thethfrog suggests you may need the install discs to accomplish this.

Help I Forgot My Password ?

Find the Mac OS X install CD or DVD that came with your Mac or the one that you used to install Mac OS X. Insert it into the machine. Then, from the menu, choose Restart. As the Mac starts up again, hold down the letter C key, which starts the Mac from the CD/DVD and launches the Mac OS X installer.

On the first installer screen, Choose Reset Password from the installer menu. When the Password Reset screen appears, click the hard drive that contains Mac OS X. From the first pop-up menu, choose the name of your account . Now make up a new password and type it into both boxes. Click Save, Close the window and Restart
