Samsung T5 SSD Activation Software Installation causes Kernel Panic to macOS High Sierra 10.13.4

I am running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 on 27" iMac 2012

I just bought a Samsung T5 SSD but the activation software installation causes kernel panic on the macOS. My iMac freeze during the activation software installation, and then reboot itself. Here is the crash report. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thanks

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Yes, uninstall the "activation" software.

A hard drive doesn't need any software. If it is so flakey that it needs software, you should return it for something that isn't such a pile of crap.

Besides the activation software, it has also installed Paragon so that you can leave the drive formatted for Windows.

Unless you need it to work with Windows, that bundled NTFS software will likely break at various OS updates and upgrades because it is also a cheap, hobbled version of the retail software.

If you must use it with Windows and you must use their password scheme, you'll have to wait for Samsung to release a version that isn't garbage. No guarantee that won't break at the next update.

Or, you can format it for the Mac as APFS or HFS+ with encryption. Then get rid of the crapware they misled you into installing.

Beside, do you know any external SSD with cross-platform password encryption that works on macOS High Sierra 10.13.4? So far Samsung T3, T5, WD Password SSD all work flawlessly on Windows, but I still could not find anything that works on macOS High Sierra yet.

It seems like the macOS software is really tricky to write since no vendor out there is capable of creating something that works with High Sierra so far. And yet, they all can write good software on Windows platform.

Just wondering how long users like us had to suffer on small things like this...

I miss the day when everything "just work" in the past...

May 9, 2018 8:24 AM in response to Barney-15E

I have contacted Samsung but their reply was not helping. I had tried all possible suggestion listed on their website, user manual as well as those from Google search but none of them work. So I end up reinstalling macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 from scratch (backup + format + reinstall), and install the Samsung activation software before anything else, and it finally works!!

I slowly reinstalling other suspicious apps one by one (Paragon NTFS, ... etc). I still not sure which app install the "org.dungeon.driver.SATSMARTDriver 0.10" but everything is working fine so far.

I would like to see if "org.dungeon.driver.SATSMARTDriver 0.10" is installed/loaded. Does anyone know how manually to print all the loaded kexts like the one shown in the panic report?

Thanks
