A simple question. When I take a photo with my iphone and have fotostram enabled on the iphone and the mac, will the photo be downloaded locally to my mac in addition to the Fotostream folder automatically, or do I have to do that manually,so as not to loose the photo after 30 days?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough: the answer to your question in NO, it will not be downloaded permanently! As long as you have it in your Photostream on your phone it will remain synced on yur laptop (based on the 30 days or 1000 photos quota).
To make it "permanently stay" you need to manually save your photos!
To answer your question: Photostream keeps photos for 30 days or 1000 photos (whatever is reached last). If you don't take many photos you can have them (if you don't reach 1000 photos) for many moths back.
But Photostream was not meant to be a service for important photos, so I would recomend to use either iCloud/Google Photos or to manually save on your disk the photos you consider important.

One more thing: if you own a Mac laptop/desktop you can use the Photos app on the laptop/desktop to permanently copy a version of your photos and videos to you device. This way you have them saved on your laptop/desktop independently of what happens in Photostream.

When I take a photo with my iphone it is in the fotostream on all my devices.But is it automatically stored locally “forever“ or only in the fotostream, which well be gone after 30 days. In this case I would have to manually save it to my disk.

The Question is:
Will fotostream download my photo to my harddrive permanantly, or will the photo "on my harddrive" after it showed in fotostream for 30 days be gone from my harddrive.
