How do I open a thumb drive on my Mac?

I have a thumb drive from windows that I want to open and transfer to my mac. How do I do that?

MacBook Air, iOS 10.3.1

Plug it in and then choose Computer from the Finder’s Go menu. If the Finder’s set to display it on the desktop or in the sidebar, it can be accessed in those ways instead.


If you’re referring to documents on the drive, you’ll need to have an application capable of opening them. This may be different for each file type.
