New iPhone "This Accessory is not supported"

Hello forums,

I just bought a new (refurbished) iPhone 7. The headphone adapter that came with the phone works for a minute or so before throwing an error message "This Accessory is not supported". Apple support said to update the phone so I did, i'm currently on the newest iOS version iOS 11.3.1 and the phone still throws the error message. This is with the official adapter that came with the phone. Any chance I can fix this without having to buy a new adapter? If so I'd rather just get rid of the phone while I can and go with something else. I'd like to play music through my car aux. Thank you!

Hi

Go to iCloud make sure iCloud back up is on Then backup now over your wifi.

Then go to settings down to reset Restore iPhone back to factory settings.

Set back up over your wifi when it asks if you want to use iCloud backup Say yes to get your apps and data back this will get rid of any bugs.

Let me know if this works.

Who did you buy the phone from?

If you purchased it from Apple, it would have the normal Apple warranty so you should be able to exchange your headphone adapter under warranty.

If from a third party, you may want to check with them.

You can always verify this by stopping by your local Apple Store and ask to try a different adapter to see if you have the same issue.

Why? Are you soured off the phone because a $29 accessory was bad?

Yeah, actually. Considering that it has to be MFi certified, if the adapter goes bad again it's something I'm going to have to deal with again. I'm not saying its a bad phone, I'm not saying that its bad design even. It's not something I wan't to constantly revisit and deal with.

Ended up getting a replacement and it works fine. If this happens again though probably just going to return the phone and get something else.
