With the last update my IPhone7Plus did (11.3.1), the group message sound is now just a ding where it used to be my default notification sound. I don't like the ding as it sounds exactly like Facebook messenger. How can I change it?

I understand you would like to change the sound for notifications in Messages on your iPhone. You can do this in the Settings app. Tap Settings > Sounds and change the Text Tone. There is no distinction between group texts and individual texts.
