OSX freezes on wakeup - any thoughts?

My Macbook has taken to freezing after entering my password on waking. I have to reboot it to login, after rebooting it logs in fine and restores previous session. Do you have any idea what could be causing it to freeze when it wakes from sleeping?

OSX 10.13.4

2013 Pro retina 15" 16GB RAM

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.4)

MacBook won't wake up Sometimes my MacBook won't wake up and I have to restart it. Sometimes it wakes up but has a flashing file folder on the screen. How can I fix this??

Even though its title implies a different problem, please read and follow all the steps under "If the previous steps don't work" in If your Mac doesn't sleep or wake when expected - Apple Support.
