What is Mackeeper?

Mackeeper keeps popping up on my screen asking me to download it. I have to shut down to get rid of it. Can this be blocked?

You’ve likely installed adware. Download and run MalwareBytes for Mac.

What the heck is this app and why can't I turn it off ? A few minutes ago, I got some kind of a "allow access" pop up which I thought was legitimate because I was in the middle of performing some checks on my system. The message came up, and then this program (assuming it is from Mac) is now permanently running on my desktop. Its annoying and I want to find where I can turn it off. I don't need a microphone listening all the time, and I certainly dont need to see that it is hearing everything either.

Rubbish. You do not need this. They will try to get money from you for functions that are already native to your system. You will need to make some effort to get them off your back. Google search and read up on how to remove Mackeeper from your system.
