Faces not always detected in Photos

When I import photos from my DSLR or phone, I find that Photos does not find all of the faces. It is tedious to go add them one by one (think kids birthday party pictures) Is there a way to tell Photos to go look again at a group of images and find the faces? Sometimes, it only finds a few faces in an image and others are not seen as faces.

Also, when I do train it, it often has no idea who the person is even though it is a clear image and is almost the same as an image in the picture before and after. It does not seem to matter whether I have 5 images of a person or 200.

It would be nice to have some sort of notification about who it might think the image is of rather the just a blank.

Where are you looking for the detected faces?

Did you enable the option "Show faces" in the View menu, so all detected faces will be framed by circles?

Photos does not automatically add all detected faces to the People album, only for persons that have been detected frequently and recognized again as the same person. you will see all detected faces however, if you browse the photos with the "Show Faces" option enabled. and if you wait for the faces scan to finish.

Photos will scan a photo only once. To force photos to scan the photo again, you would have to edit it.

I always have show faces turned on and I update them most of the time as I import.

They are mostly family pictures so there is a highly regular set of people who have dozens of trained faces at a minimum for each one and hundreds on the higher end. It should be getting much better at guessing. Its almost as if it gets worse. They do not show up in "Confirm Additional Faces" either so it is not even guessing correctly. It should be able to use the metadata and see that this person is in a lot of pictures on this day and at this location, so it would be safe to assume it is one of the known people.

I do have them on Google and Amazon as well as backups and Google does a better job of guessing. Amazon Photos does OK, but does not let you correct them so it gets messed up as well so is basically useless.

I do not use iCloud Photo Library either since my 12 year old 600GB photo library (100GB of video) would be too much of a pain to deal with (I see my wife's version of it and it is no different in guessing people). Splitting it up would be nice, but then accessing it would be a pain (different topic).
