Maximize windows does not fully max the window

Hi there,

I know how to option click the green button to max a window, instead of going full screen.

But when I open a pdf file with preview, and option click that green button, it does bigger the window, but not fully max that window at all... Open a pdf and try for yourself you'll see what I mean. How to have mac OS to fully max that window to my screen?

Thank you

It's not a Maximize button. It is the Zoom button. It toggles the window size between the smallest window size needed to display the contents of the window, and a user defined size. For many apps, the minimum size is the full window size because of the content.

Since the App developer decides what the minimum size for the content, they can essentially implement the Zoom function any way they choose.

In this Support Topic it seems to imply that holding the option key will maximize the window?

macOS Sierra: Manage windows on the desktop

"Maximize a window: Press and hold the Option key while you click the green maximize button User uploaded file in the top-left corner of an app window. To return to the previous window size, Option-click the button again."

But it seems to be inconsistent from within the same Application (Preview). As I mentioned, why would it goe into Full Screen Mode for some jpegs?
