Apple TV 4K Location Services

I have an Apple TV 4K, and an AppleTV HD, both connected to the same airport express extreme.

The older Apple TV, has no problem accessing location services. Weather apps work fine, and more importantly, my DirecTVNow app provides me my local channels. The Apple TV 4K does not have functioning location services when connected to the very same router via WiFi or Ethernet.

I have opened port 123 as other posts have suggested, as well as changed the time updates to manual and chose my local time zone. I have reset the Apple TV 4K, and I have also tried the latest beta (11.4 beta 4).

Not sure what what else to try. Very frustrating.

My TCL P605 tv picks up the location correctly, and can stream the locals via the built in DTVNow app, but the picture quality is not as good, and the app is less reliable than the AppleTV 4K app, so I would prefer to use this.

Either AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme? Not very important, as it seems to be working for the other devices.

I presume you have come across the question of allowing Location Services in Set Up several times then. Also, you can verify the setting in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Location Services {On/Off}; allowance per app.

If that UDP port 123 was closed, then the other devices wouldn’t have been able to connect to time servers either. Running beta software is not a solution, and cuts off help.

Yeah, sorry. AirPort Extreme.

Yes, I have triple checked at every step that location services are on overall as well as for the DTVNow app. On the older AppleTV when you ask Siri what the weather is, it works and pops up the forecast on the screen. On the AppleTV 4K, it says ‘sorry, I don’t know where you are’.

I will try adding the UDP port 123 as well.

As for beta, I was hoping it was a TVOS 11.3 bug. If it was, it has not been addressed in the latest beta. I have gone back to 11.3.

I opened UDP port 123 as well and no difference.

When I use Siri to ask what the weather is on the older appleTV, it pops the forecast on the screen for the correct location.

When I do the same thing on the AppleTV 4K, it says “I don’t Seem to be able to get your current location”.
