Automatic outline numbering

I would like to change the way Pages automatically numbers hierarchically. For example, by default if you select an outline list from Format sidebar this is what you get:

I. [if you press return then you get another Roman numeral]

II. [if you then press tab you get the next hierarchal number]

A.

If I press return twice to add another line between the headings the list stops and a blank line appears.

What I want to happen is slightly different. Once I start a list, the Roman numeral appears I would then press return twice (or how many time I like to get additional lines between headings and the initial number remains. For instance:

I. [I enter data, then press return twice]

II. [number remains constant, it doesn’t disappear] [I can then enter data or press tab to indent and move to the next hierarchy]

I hope I haven’t made this too confusing. Thanks for any help.

Hi Tom,

Built in behaviour that is not user controllable. If you want this feature added/modified, use the Provide Pages Feedback item in the Pages menu to submit a Feature Enhancement request.

Meantime, try setting Space after Paragraph to a value greater than zero. That spacing is set to 12 pt in the example below, a screen shot from Pages 3.6.2 using 11 pt Helvetica type.

Since this was done as a modification to the Body style, it will affect ALL paragraph spacing in the document, not just that in Lists. You may want to ADD a style rather that Update the current style. See Pages Help for instructions on creatng and adding a new style.
