Exploding Apple Watch
My Apple watch series 3, 42" exploded on my arm while I was sitting down quietly. Never had any other problems. It did not get warm. The screen just shattered.

The exact same thing happened to me. I was sitting in Mellow Mushroom at a table with my family. I heard a pop and then a piece of glass hit me in the forehead. Three sides of the face came separate from the body of the watch. Went to the Apple store, the “genius” said it was obvious it had exploded, but the battery wasn’t swollen so something else caused the pressure. Told me it would be covered under warranty with no charge. I receive an email from the Apple technicians doing the repair that stated the screen is cracked and isn’t covered under warranty. IT EXPLODED, of course the screen is cracked. $289 to repair a $399 device is ridiculous. Incredibly disapp

My experience with contacting Apple Customer support has always been quite positive. I've rarely had to wait more than a couple of minutes. However, if all I need to do is make an appointment, I use the Apple Support App on my phone.
Same. I went today and the guy who helped me was super rude saying over and over "Again I am not going to dispute your story" in such a way that he was clearly disputing my story. To fix it is almost $300. I asked if it was so delicate that a minor bump could have shattered it. He said no. It is very strong. I said how do I know if I sink more money it won't shatter without any remember-able bumps? He stared at me and told me he wasn't disputing my story. Bottom line is I am out $400. I will probably go back to my old fitbit. It also ***** because I was going to buy two Ipad minis for my kids for our summer car trip but now I am too angry to spend another dollar on an apple product. I got the watch as a gift from my husband so I wasn't even there to consider buying AppleCare.
Wow I hope mine doesn’t pop off, explode or crack and cause injury. I don’t fancy losing an eye.
Is there a limit on exposed temperatures on how hot it can get?
Ive just been sitting out in 34 Celsius ( 94 f) hot sun. I think I’ll take it off now! My iPhone and iPad warn me if it’s getting hot.
I have the saphire crystal glass.
Contact Apple Customer Support. There is a link at the top right of every page of the forums. .
I wouldn't waste your time. I called them and they told me they could make me an appointment with an Apple Store. I could have done that faster online without the hold times.
I told the rep I would make the appointment myself when I got to work. The website is down. LOL I think this just isn't my day.
It just took me less than 2 minutes to make an appointment by going through the Contact Support link above.
I was refused service at the Apple Store for this issue. The faceplate popped off and cracked, and the tech refused to beleive I had not somehow smashed it myself.
Were you refused service? Or did they tell you you'd need to pay for a replacement? Not exactly the same thing.
LOL I didn't even say a bad word and it starred it out. If I had known that I would have cussed away just to feel better.
I ended up walking away from the device entirely. The whole incident left a bad taste in my mouth, and my re-adjustment to life without an apple watch was a lot faster than I thought .
Same. I still like an activity tracker so I went back to Fitbit.
Me too, and Apple said I smashed it myself... it burnt my arm but they wouldn’t fix it without payment.
