Erase water damage phone

I have a 5 SE with water damage. I cannot access iTunes because I cannot enter a passcode without screen access. How can I erase this phone to send back to warranty company?

Thank you all for the responses. I was able to erase the phone through Find My iPhone by logging in through iCloud.com. Feeling relived now. And the “warranty” is actually a protection plan through the wireless carrier. Sorry for the confusion.

That? Oh - I’ve done that once. My kid refused to hand back an iPad and I erased it remotely using Find My iPhone. It started erasing almost immediately.

However, the device has to be connected to the Internet and talking to Apple‘s servers to start the erase process. Even though it’s water damaged, there’s a chance the insurer might try to fix it then come back to you asking to remove the activation lock.

paid for 3rd party warranty with phone bill.

OK - so they would buy you another one after you return it. There really is no way to erase it other than getting it to work. And if you do that kind of work (which is expensive) the warranty company might not accept it.

Do you trust the company to dispose of it properly?

Not to alarm you unnecessarily, but just because there's water damage doesn't mean that the data is unrecoverable. It would have to be fixed and working long enough to extract the data. If you have a passcode on it, then I wouldn't worry about it. I'd also check the warranty company's privacy policy.

Which company? It sounds more like device insurance than a warranty if they're going to replace it.
