Do not click on the "start repair". Shut down the computer and restart in Safe Mode, to avoid loading this malware again. Then download Malwarebytes (for Mac) and run it, to clean out the bad stuff.

No, it's not a virus. Those move from one device to another on their own. You installed it, which makes it a Trojan. A Trojan is software that cannot get on your computer without your help.

What you installed was adware, as evidenced by the sudden proliferation of ads falsely claiming your computer is infected. Which is baloney to start with since there are no viruses that can affect macOS.

If Flash is already installed, you can update it, or check to see if there are updates in the System Preferences as Carolyn noted. If you don't have Flash installed, the one and only place to ever get it is directly from Adobe. Any popup - literally, any - that tells you to download a Flash, Java, codec or other nonsense directly from them is a scam.

You can try to find the installed adware and remove it yourself, but some of it has gotten very difficult to find and remove. Download and run MalwareBytes for Mac. It's main purpose is to find and removing adware, and other unwanted software.

if the flash player is yet to be downloaded , get it downloaded it can be deleted from system library and user library folders , Even if malware gets installed malware bytes will help .

Also keep extensions as off , in user library reset the safari - delete contents of caches , cookies , saved application state , safari into the trash ,

Find a folder preferences > delete com.apple.safari.plist to the trash .

Restart the Mac and empty the trash , set the homepage once again .

I tried to find the app associated with that icon, but couldn't. Certainly try putnik's advice, but MBAM isn't always successful looking for adware plug-ins for Chrome, if that's where it is.

If you are still seeing this after trying MBAM in Safe Mode, open Chrome and look through its list of installed plugins. Remove, or at least disable any you don't recognize. If the problem goes away, delete that plugin.

For this image, nothing. That is what the real Flash Player looks like in the System Preferences. Allowing Adobe to automatically install updates is how I also have mine set. You can click Check Now if you want, but since it updates itself as necessary, it should show the following sheet:

User uploaded file

Which, or both of the plug-ins you have installed depends on what browser you use. NPAPI is for Safari, Firefox and others. PPAPI is the Pepper plug-in for Chrome.
