"Your iCloud storage is almost full"

This is doing my head in! I have 50 Gb of storage on iCloud but apparently there is only 64Mb left - yet when I log in to icloud.com there is almost nothing there other than a few iPhone photos. I have turned off every sync, link, drive etc. etc. I can find on all my devices so that nothing more gets uploaded. So my question is:

1. Where is this 49Gb of data?

2. How do I delete data from iCloud?

3. How do I stop getting these constant reminder emails about lack of storage?

4. Why can't Apple produce a simple video guide for numptys like me to explain how iCloud works?

Looking at various forums, loads of people have asked similar questions but none have received a satisfactory answer!

Adrian,

what are you seeing on your Mac in the system preferences > iCloud, when you click the "Mange" button?

That should give you a list, what is using the storage. what does it show? If there is any application listed with a lot of storage used, click it to manage the documents.

Hi Leonie,

I see this:

It appears that ‘other documents’ is using the bulk of my storage - no idea what or where that is - there is nothing in any folder anywhere close to that size when I look iniCloud.com What is ‘other documents’?

Other people have posted similar problems and after contacting iCloud support, found it was a server problem. iCloud support reset everything. You may have to politely ask for a level 2 person.

You may have to try twice.

Hi Eric - sorry, your message is a bit too cryptic for me, what do you mean by "you may have to politely ask for a level 2 person". Surely it's a simple thing for someone to explain to me (and thousands of others it would appear) how to access data stored in their account?

Try calling iCloud Support. If the initial person you talk to can't/won't help, ask to speak to the next higher level of support, which is level 2. There are several levels of support and the higher you go, the more experience they have.
