Time Machine not backing up after OS update

Time Machine last backed up my computer four days ago. I took a long weekend and didn't get on the computer except to run some updates yesterday and am now at the latest version of High Sierra (10.13.4).

I have been unable to complete a Time Machine backup since then. Periodically, I get the "preparing backup" message popping up on its own and I also get it if I try to manually launch a backup, but after that runs for a couple of hours, TM doesn't actually back up and still says my last backup was four days ago.

I ran first aid on my backup drive and it's fine. I've tried turning TM on and off and even rebooted. Any thoughts on how I can get TM to start working again?

Thanks,

Rae

Thanks -- that sounded SO promising, but I did not have that file. The issue seems to have corrected itself. 😕 However, thanks to your suggestion I saw that I have a "lost and found" folder on that drive, which is apparently Bad News. I've had a lot of trouble with that backup drive, so even though Disk Utility first aid says it's okay, I suspect it's not. I'll replace it.

So great solution for most people, I think, and you inadvertently solved a more major future issue. Thanks again!
