How can I airdrop an album between Macs?

I have an album in Photos on my MacBook Pro, and I select it and try to share it via Airdrop. The target is my iMac, which can see the MacBook Pro via "searching for older Macs". The sharing seems to start, in that the photos in the album go through some sort of process called "preparing" or something like that, but nothing appears on the iMac. Can anyone say what's going on? All I want to do really is transfer an album from one Mac to another with minimum fuss. I realise I could try to share the album via the "Shared Albums" feature (at least I think I could) but why doesn't Airdrop do anything?

BTW, both my Macs are running MacOS High Sierra 10.13.4

iPhone 5, iOS 11.0.3, 16Gb

You can not airdrop an album, you can select all of the photos in an album and air drop those photos but they will not be an albums when received, just a number of photos - depending on how many photos you are sending and what size each photo is it may take a long time or not even be possible

You request is still not clear - you seem to want to transfer albums and except using iCloud Photo Library that is not possible, albums do not exist as they are virtual and you can transfer the photos form an album but not the album its self and at the receiving location yo do not have an album but a group of photos to do with what you please including import to Photos on that device and place into an album there

This may or may not help as I have no idea what your actually issue is but it is how it works

It seems quite clear to me! If you look at Apple's own description of Airdrop, it says "AirDrop lets you share instantly with people nearby". Well, I have two Macs, which at the time of writing are on the same physical desk and the same wifi network - eventually one (the laptop) will be taken somewhere far away. So right now I can share anything, right? Pictures seem a fine thing to share. As I am a good Apple citizen, and not a professional photographer, I am using Photos on both these Macs. It seems highly logical and within the spirit of AirDrop to try to share Albums from Photos. You have kindly and correctly pointed out that this isn't possible, but it the lack of this capability is counterintuitive in my opinion. Sharing is sharing. I would at least expect a message saying "sorry, you can't share albums", but there wasn't one.

As already stated, I solved the problem by making my album shared in the sense meant by Photos in its category "Shared Albums": but that involves putting a lot of photos into cyberspace, which takes a long time (without a progress indicator, BTW) and in my case wasn't required, since the wifi network is ready for speedy local transfers.

I didn't know albums were virtual - but even so, a virtual object can be recreated in another environment, can't it?
