No signal detected by second monitor

While troubleshooting a problematic external USB drive, my second monitor went blank. The message on the monitor said no signal detected. I tried shutting down, disconnecting and reconnecting the monitor, then restarting. Nothing. Finally after shutting down and leaving the Mac off for a couple of hours then restoring, the monitor came back on. So, the problem is resolved but I'd like to know why it happened. And how to fix it in a more timely manner.

Macbook suddenly stops recognizing external monitor I worked with external monitor and everything were fine. Yesterday I turned off my Mac as always. Today I turn it on and see that external monitor doesn't work( Mac doesn't recognize it anymore. I don't see it in display settings as well. HDMI no signal Hello everyone! I'm experiencing an issue here. I'm using MacBook Air 2017 with external monitor. I use MiniDP reduction to HDMI and HDMI cable to connect it to the monitor. A few moments ago I plugged MacBook in to charge up, but at this exact moment the monitor went off and started displaying "HDMI no signal". I already tried to reset SMC and NVRAM, but issue still remains. I tried checked HDMI with my windows laptop and it works just fine. The "HDMI no signal" appears right after, when I connect it to the reduction (which was at the time disconnected from MB, when I tried it). So is this an issue with MacBook or just the reduction isn't working properly?
