How to setup multiplayer on an Apple TV

How do I setup a Minecraft world for two players on an Apple TV? Can I split screen or do they have to have their own device? I have a iPad pro and and a MacBook Pro if I need to use more than one device.

Apple TV 4K, iOS 11.3.1

you can try microsofts minecraft support https://minecraft.net/en-us/help/

minecraft for appletv is on the list in the dropdown
