My husband died - photos from phone?

My husband died last year and I would like to have the photos from his iphone (particularly our Daughter's birthday which was the last time everything was ok) but no one knows his passcode.

I have tried some likely passcodes but I'm worried it will erase itself if I keep getting it wrong.

I am his next of kin and I have the death certificate.

Is there anything I can do?

Thank you.

There is no way to unlock the phone if you don't know the phone's passcode. The only place it is stored is on the phone, so Apple can't help you recover it. So you will have to focus on getting content from any backups or synced data.

If he backed up to iCloud or iTunes and you know his Apple ID and password you can recover content from the backup. And if he synced photos to iCloud you can log in to https://icloud.com and view and download them from there.

If you don't know his iCloud password but you do know his Apple ID and his email address is still active you can recover the password here: Recover Your Apple ID

In your situation Apple can help you recover the iCloud ID and passcode; make a genius bar appointment and bring documentation that supports that you are in control of his estate: Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
