iOS 11.4 update bricked my iPad Air 2...

iOS 11.4 update bricked my iPad Air 2 Is there a fix? Itunes will not recognize or restore the iPad. Very frustrating. Getting tired of issues with "older" items (this iPad is a year old) when updating.

iPad Air, iOS 8.1

I have an iPad Air and installed the update which worked for 24 hours and then bricked it. I spent 1.25 hours on a CS chat and got nowhere but was offered a $273 Diagnostic Test via mailing into the center. The recovery mode did nothing but iTunes failed to recognize the device more than anything. After endless restarts that ended up in the all white screen I gave up for now. Perhaps someone at Apple will try to actually help.

What happens when you attempt to restore the iPad? Do you see an error, and if so, what is the exact text of the error?

You can use this support document to see about a failure of iTunes to recognize the iPad, If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Here is general advice about being unable to restore, If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Otherwise, more information would help.

iPad was working fine... no issues. My iPad Pro updated with zero issues. Decided to plug the Air 2 into the computer to update it. As usual, iTunes comes up and says that there is an update, would I like to proceed. I do... during the update process, the "connect to iTunes" screen comes up on my ipad, and then this message (screen shot) pops up.

Checked to make sure iTunes was up to date, and it was. Try to restore it several times normally, then tried DFU restore. Same error message. Even restarted the computer, same thing.

Yup, I'm there. Recently moved away from iPhone for this same reason. Stuff just does not "work" like it used to. They push out updates with known problems and then charge you to talk to them about issues they caused. Or... they're trying to push you to upgrade. The longer I'm around Apple, the more I feel like this is their motivation, even if they say it's not.

Switched to a Samsung S9+, and it has been flawless. Doubt I'll be replacing any of my Apple stuff with new Apple gear. Used to be worth the extra money, but not anymore.

I had my iPad Air 2 cellular unit updated on May 31st, right then bug issues came out. I can not connect to Appstore and itunes; Date and Time is not responding; Bluetooth also is not turning on; charging is slow. I resetted and erased my iPad 8times on June 1st. So I sent my complains to Apple...they did diagnostics on my unit and Appcare viewed my Ipad as well. Then they told me I have a hardware problem. Say what???? It was working since May 31st when I was still on ios 11.3.1. Everthings working fine til the update came. Then they told me to see an Apple center near me and have it replaced or repaired since your appcare is more than a year, you have to pay a service fee and for parts... i said I can no longer extend another expense for something that I didnt done wrong, as you said it was a hardware issue, then how come it only happened during the update? Since I was upset already, they said they will inform the engineering staffs about this issue. Up to what extent? If this ipad can not be fixed with another latest update are you going to replace my unit? And so they say as always promised me to help me with this bug issue. In my thoughts they want me to spend to replace my unit, in other words they want me to spend again.

I too have the same problem. Updated to ios 11.4 on my Ipad Air 2, kept it on stand by overnight. Screen went black in the morning and has refused to turn on ever since. Seems to be a common issue for this combination (Ipad Air 2 + iOS 11.4). Have tried everything suggested on various forums thus far without any success. Hope somebody cracks it in here...

Foolishly tried to update iPad Pro to 11.4 from 11.2.3 (I think). Took almost a full day. Finally got a message "The iPad "iPad" (not the name I had) cannot be updated. The device cannot be found." Device screen now frozen on what I've heard referred to as the "Connect to iTunes" screen or the "restore" screen. I go through all of the rigamarole alternately asking it to update or restore only to hear the Windows "remove device" sound 10 to 15 minutes into the process and the little iPad silhouette disappears from my iTunes window. After about 5 hours, I get the "The iPad "iPad" (not the name I had) cannot be updated. The device cannot be found." message again.

I am LIVID that their update has bricked my device and that I'm more than likely going to be on the hook for repairs if I want to continue to benefit from my $1000 investment in their product. I need this product for my job and it looks like I won't be able to make use of it for at least a week.

By the way, I mentioned that I "foolishly" tried to update as I had a similar issue in my last update and after a day or two of similar heartache, finally managed to get the ****** thing to work. Won't make that mistake again.

Same boat here... i went a step further and headed to the apple store after numerous customer service calls...at the end, the so called “genious” guys couldnt do ****... dey freaking couldnt give me an explanation of what the error meant... the fact which ****** me off the most is that “APPLE” has a company as the audacity to recommend me in replacing my ipad 2 with a “f**kin genious bar discount” for $300...for a fault which they did in their software update..how is it fare towards a customer?? Shame on you Apple...shame on your customer service process??
