iOS 11.4 battery drain

My iPhone 6 was working perfectly fine until I updated to iOS 11.4 and ever since I did that my battery is draining rapidly even without me using it at all. I used to go a full day without charging it now it may last half a day. I am just wondering if something got turned on with this new update that I have to turn off to save battery life. It is just weird I have not done anything other than update the iOS and now this happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue.

When I look at my battery performance, it shows that the personal hotspot on my phone is being used, though I have never turned it on. I have to keep charging my iPhone every 2-3 hours now.

That’s not what I would have expected, this issues defies all logic, if there are devices running ok with 11.4 you would think those that have been unlucky enough to have the issue should be ok with a clean install.

It’s almost as though there as different releases of 11.4 floating around, unless as someone earlier in the discussion was trying to work out, is there a conflict with certain hardware in those unlucky devices!

DFU-restored as new twice and didn't help. Iphone 6S - battery with 95% health. Downgraded to 11.3.1 when I still could.

I was using 5GHz wifi. Netgear R7800 router with latest firmware. Didn't try 2.4GHz because didn't know about it then.

Using Gmail through IOS.

Exchange mail with Push.

Most location services off, bluetooth on (tried turning it off), background app refresh off, handoff off.

Phone would lose almost all battery sitting idle at night.

Me too. Upgraded and found my battery drains over night. Done the usual things about app refresh turned off and even location services. But still would lose 60-70% battery drain overnight.

I’ve turned off Wi-fi and now just use 4G. Funnily enough my battery lasts much longer now. Luckily I have a good data plan so will just use 4g now till Apple can be bothered to fix this problem. Absolute joke though that Wi-fi seems to be the issue.

Again last night the practically new battery in my iPhone 6 went from 100% charge to 52% while I slept. I've tried everything since I updated last week to 11.4 and nothing worked until now...

This morning, over 1-1/2 hours ago (following another full battery charge) I turned off wi-fi in settings and my charge has remained at 100% -- so far, so good!

So what the heck's wrong with wi-fi in the latest update? (I'll bet it's the FBI or NSA... maybe Peter Strzok got bored since they escorted him out of the FBI and he's spying on all of us.) 😉

i used 4g a lot yesterday to watch Sky Sports on my Iphone and playing games. Battery consumption was way less than using it on Wi-Fi. I used Safari last week on Wi-Fi and could see my battery drain in just a few minutes. Did the same again on 4G and hardly any batter drain. May be different on other peoples phones - but my experience is that Wi-Fi is causing this issue on my phone.🙂

Same issue here. For several days i just used 4G only and turned the Wi-Fi off. This helped and my battery was back to normal. Following other peoples comments on here - i have now reset my network settings, turned off Location Services and gone back onto Wi-Fi. So far my battery has been okay and is back to normal.

Prior to this my battery would drain 70% over night and there defintely seems an issue with the Wi-Fi.

Still early days after the network reset - but the battery does seem a lot better.

Hello Community,

I have used iTunes Restore as New several times as my battery drain problem continues. After the iTunes Restore as New, I haven't installed any apps at all. I did not add my Google account. I just completed the iTunes Restore as New, set up with my iCloud account and the battery drains badly still!

I cannot use this device and have put it in a drawer with other out-of-service devices. I cannot trust buying another Apple device with this history of battery problems. I'll stay an Android user as Google has always done a great job acknowledging problems quickly (which is half the battle) and then resolving it soon after.

Good luck!

As soon as I downloaded 11.4 the battery started draining extremely fast. Next time I will do some research before downloading updates. Apple is probably making money from selling more chargers (I had to buy 2). I have turned off everything possible and followed suggestions on line. The most I can be without plugging in is 2 to 3 hours. I certainly hope Apple has a fix soon or I may go Android.

I have seen the same. Turning off WiFi has made a market difference.

I have seen earlier posts where people have observed the iPhone dropping and restarting connections to their 5g Wifi.

To be fair to Apple, I have also seen that behavior with my Kindle from Amazon. With both devices I had them "Forget" the 5g network and the battery life has been better on both.

I have no idea how or why. This is just an observation.

It is a NetGear WAP with both 5g and 2.4g.
