iOS 11.4 battery drain

My iPhone 6 was working perfectly fine until I updated to iOS 11.4 and ever since I did that my battery is draining rapidly even without me using it at all. I used to go a full day without charging it now it may last half a day. I am just wondering if something got turned on with this new update that I have to turn off to save battery life. It is just weird I have not done anything other than update the iOS and now this happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue.

When I look at my battery performance, it shows that the personal hotspot on my phone is being used, though I have never turned it on. I have to keep charging my iPhone every 2-3 hours now.

Devices updating to iOS 11.3 will initially have performance management disabled; it will be reenabled if the device subsequently experiences an unexpected shutdown.)

All iPhone models include fundamental performance management to ensure that the battery and overall system operates as designed and internal components are protected. This includes behavior in hot or cold temperatures, as well as internal voltage management. This type of performance management is required for safety and expected function, and cannot be turned off.

Thanks 098 for your input. I had the problem on SE after the 11.4 update which only improved with 12 beta so I gave 11.4.1 a go which I had to install as restore as new and after an evening out of around 5 hours the battery stayed at 100%,d made sure I used 2.4 home WiFi before leaving and did not connect to any out of home WiF. i did the restore via iTune so not update over WiF. I would say 11.4.1 is good, let’s wait to see what happens overnight which is when the gremlin seems to strike.

Goodness so many people having same issue. Im not exactly sure which update I do know it was right after the battery beta both mine and my husbands battery just drains like crazy. Both of our iPhone 6S have to be charged at least two times daily. They turn off and on, reboot, or won't turn on for about a hour or two after turning off on own. Usually both can go 2-3 days before needing a charge. Now my husbands phone won't turn on and its been half a day. Both of our phones aren't even three yrs old yet. This is bringing back bad memories with my iPhone 4's last update before its similiar demise.

Hey Guys. My battery report shows Whatsapp use most of battery. I am trying not to use Whatsapp today (this is difficult and many cannot reach me today). See is there any help. Whatsapp running at the background even I have off background activities. I am going to restrict Whatsapp to use my data. Let me know if you have same battery report. Thanks. By the way, I have updated iOS 11.4.1 using WiFi in the setting. Seldom use iTune.

Hi. I do not normally use WiFi. Battery drain problem for me does not relate to WiFi. Maybe if I switch on WiFi, the situation will be even worse. I have off 4G function, off location service, off background app refresh, off fitness tracking, off 3D touch, changed Mail from push to fetch manually, on reduce motion, etc, etc. On the airplane mode at night. Now I can use my iPhone 7 Plus for 1 day. Some may say it’s good. Nope, it’s not. I can normally use up to 1.5 days before iOS 11.4. With all these functions off, I can only use 1 day. And thanks for Apple and iOS 11.4 or 11.4.1, my iPhone cannot use 4G and location service together with Find my iPhone function. Touch wood, hopefully I won’t loss my iPhone before I can use location service. :/

Gogogagetipod did you update the 6s to 11.4.1 over WiFi or plugged into a computer with iTunes? 11.4.1 seems to be hit or miss with people fixing the battery drain problem and I wonder if that’s the cause. I updated my 6s to 11.4.1 through iTunes plugged into a PC and it’s working fine now. My 6s has stayed 96%-100% sitting on a shelf all day, 3 days in a row now, with WiFi 5G on and airplane mode off, using it plugged in all night with a music alarm on. Previous update to 11.4 under same conditions killed the battery 100% to red in 1/2 day.

My iPhone 6s charged over night and was at 100% 1 hour and 30 minutes ago. I used Hot Spot and looked at email, etc (3 or 4 Apps max and turned the Apps off after using them). When the charge gets to 80% the Low Power Mode goes off and I didn't turn it back on this morning so it ran at full power.

The battery health is at 87% and was 91% when I loaded 11.4. I have been running 11.4.1 for more than a week.

Everything is turned off that can be turned off.

My battery is now at 18%. That is 54% drain per hour. Time to plug in again.

This is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE and not getting better. What has APPLE done???????? I will need to have to look for another phone. It won't be an Apple.

FIX 1: Problem with Wi-Fi

The problem may be with your Wi-Fi after upgrading to 11.4 some major changes happen on it. To rectify this by Switching from a 5GHz network to a 2.4GHz network. Otherwise, disable Wi-Fi.

FIX 2: Use iOS 11.4

Many people get fixed with this issue when they updated to iOS 11.4.1. But still some not get fixed with this solution.

Precisely , however such in the case of my IPod it corrected whatever it was draining the battery in standby while WiFi was turned on. I’m now closing on 60 hours standby on my iPod with WiFi on and just now hit 50%. Unfortunately my iPhone 6s Plus isn’t so lucky. My battery life before I installed 11.4 was 100% and now it’s tettering 90% . IMO that’s not a good sign.

Apple you need to fix this. I have an Iphone 6. 11.4.1 did NOT fix the problem. Having to turn OFF Location services is not a solution. Come clean and admit there is a problem. I love Apple products but you can't hide when there is an issue. It all started with the 11.4 update. Let me go back to 11.3 at a minimum until, you solve the problem. My phone is useless unless it is plugged into wall. My battery capacity always shows 93%max capacity. It will drop before my eyes from 80% down to 20 in a matter of 10 minutes just reading my email. This is on you. The battery is not the problem.

I have been facing the same issue, i had got my battery replaced about a year back on the 6s plus model. as soon as i remove the phone from charging the battery drops to 40% in matter of 30 minutes, i dont know what to do, i think apple products are seeing a severe hit lately, with quality of products and iOS going down, other companies offer much better battery and product life. i have about 7 apple devices which i use personally but because of so many issues now i am planning to shift to another product as i can't stay with a product for whom i am constantly worried about charging.
